Antique Iberian earrings in 18-carat yellow gold, made around 1750 in a baroque style. With their elongated, articulated design and richly curved shapes, they embody the exuberance and symmetry typical of this period. Each is set with a succession of sparkling garnets, whose deep red tones bring warmth and intensity. Due to the delicacy of their craftsmanship, many of these earrings have not survived, making this pair a rare piece on the current market and a precious testament to Iberian know-how.

Condition
Imperfect condition. The back of each earring shows significant gold loss in the lower parts, exposing the original lacquer filling. This is the most visible wear, but from the front, the earrings remain acceptable. Smaller areas of gold loss are also visible on other parts of the back, although much less noticeable.

Although it bears no readable control mark, we believe this piece is of Spanish or Portuguese origin, as the design is typical of 18th-century Iberian earrings.

Born in Italy, it spread to Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, and Portugal. Only a more or less austere classical version was popular in France under Louis XIV. This style, derived from the Renaissance, is characterized by lively, curved, and exuberant forms, vigorous movement, and rich ornamentation, inspired by classical sources, symmetrical as opposed to the asymmetry of the rococo style that succeeded it.
