Magnificent 18-carat yellow gold brooch by Georges Braque (1882-1963), inventor of Cubism.
branded "Bijoux de Braque" and numbered 1/8.
The gouache from "Bijoux de Braque" entitled "Tereus" is reproduced in photo 5.
The work is entitled "Tereus", after the son of Ares.
Very good overall condition. Slight golden coloration (at the heart of the bird) which gives the piece a beautiful patina.
This brooch is very representative of the "Bijoux de Braque" style, representing a very important period in Georges Braque's painting, that of the "Ateliers", where birds appear.
This bird was drawn many times by Georges Braque. You can see an example in photo 4.
"Bijoux de Braque" is a project by the famous French painter Braque, who designed jewelry during the last three years of his life, from 1960 to 1963.
All the objects in this collection are reproductions of major works by Braque, transposed into jewelry and precious sculptures with the help of stonecutter Heger de Loewenfeld. The project led to an exhibition at the Louvre Palace in Paris, from March to May 1963 (Photo 7).
There are about 100 gouaches, listed in the book "Les Métamorphoses de Braque" by Heger de Loewenfeld and Raphael de Cuttoli.
All the subjects are renamed after characters from Greek mythology.
