Vintage pendant medal in solid 18-carat yellow gold (750/1000) bearing an eagle's head guarantee hallmark and a diamond-shaped master goldsmith's hallmark. French work from the 1960s branded GRUN and A. AUGIS. Circular in shape, made of satin-finished gold, it is engraved on both sides with very beautiful relief and fine details.
On the obverse, the profile face of Virgin Mary Mary with a halo is depicted, with a contrasting border in polished gold. On the reverse, Bernadette Soubirous is kneeling before the apparition of Virgin Mary Mary in the Massabielle grotto.
Thus, in 1858, Bernadette Soubirous recounted having received eighteen apparitions of a young girl who, after Bernadette repeatedly asked her name, finally replied, "I am the Immaculate Conception." Two inscriptions appear on the back: "N.D. LOURDES" and "IMMACULATE CONCEPTION" encircling the head of Virgin Mary.
Samuel Grün, born in 1869 in Tallinn, was a French painter and medalist of Estonian origin. He exhibited at the Société des artistes français in Paris as well as at the Royal Academy Salon in London. This medal model was designed by Grün for Augis.
