Renaissance - The Renaissance (in Italian: Rinascimento, from ri- "again" and nascere "to be born") is a cultural movement that extended approximately from the 14th to the 17th century, starting in Florence at the end of the Middle Ages and then spreading to the rest of Europe. The term is also used more loosely to refer to the historical period, but since the changes of the Renaissance were not uniform across Europe, this is a general usage. As a cultural movement, it encompassed a revival of learning based on classical sources, the development of linear perspective in painting, and a progressive but widespread educational reform. Traditionally, this intellectual transformation has led the Renaissance to be considered a bridge between the Middle Ages and the modern era. Although the Renaissance was marked by revolutions in many intellectual disciplines, as well as social and political upheavals, it is perhaps best known for its artistic developments and the contributions of polymaths such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, who inspired the term "Renaissance man."
