This bracelet in platinum from the early 1950s is a remarkable example of mid-20th-century diamond craftsmanship. Its wide, articulated construction allows it to naturally embrace the wrist, while more than fifty-four carats of diamonds of exceptional color and purity create a striking and controlled brilliance. The bold design and harmonious structure reflect the renewed interest in luxury during this period, a luxury achieved through rigor and technical mastery rather than excess.
The lady who brought us the bracelet explained that she had inherited it from her mother. Her father, a renowned Antwerp diamond dealer, had selected the stones from his own stock, keeping only those he considered the most beautiful. He then commissioned a high jewelry workshop to create the bracelet, which he ordered as a personal gift for his wife. She described this provenance as part of her family history, and our own examination of the jewel, both the consistent quality of the diamonds and the precision of its manufacture, fully corroborates her account.
Seen from this perspective, the bracelet is both an impressive diamond jewel and a work of great craftsmanship. Its proportions, harmony, and masterful construction attest to the skill and intention behind its creation, and one perceives a deep personal devotion in the care given to the selection of the stones and the realization of the piece. These qualities remain evident and become almost tangible when one knows its history.

Style specifics
This type of jewel is very characteristic of the 1950s. Although the Art Deco had ended only two decades earlier, its geometric language remained a major source of inspiration. However, the abundance of pavé and sculptural volume clearly anchor this bracelet in the postwar style of the 1950s, which often makes it difficult, even for experts, to distinguish it from late Art Deco creations.
Period
circa 1950
Key events and facts of this era:
- The postwar economic recovery led to renewed demand for luxury goods.
- Jewelry houses reintroduced sumptuous diamond creations after the restrictions imposed during the war.
- Writers such as Dylan Thomas, T.S. Eliot (late period), and Louis MacNeice shaped the mid-century poetic landscape, reflecting both postwar introspection and emerging optimism.
- Dior's New Look encourages opulence, sculptural silhouettes, and generous accessories.
- An ideal environment for large and luxurious diamond bracelets like this one.

A sophisticated fusion between persistent Art Deco geometry and the renewed opulence of post-war haute couture, echoing the radiant patterns and sculptural lines that defined high-end jewelry of the 1950s.
Theme
Brilliance and symmetry expressed through geometric floral abstraction, capturing the glamour and optimism characteristic of the early post-war decades.
