Style specifics
Baroque is an artistic and decorative style that developed shortly before 1600 and remained common in Europe until the emergence of the Rococo style around 1730. Born in Italy, it spread to Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, and Portugal. Only a classical, more or less austere version was popular in France under Louis XIV. This style, originating from the Renaissance, is characterized by lively, curved and exuberant forms, vigorous movement, and rich ornamentation inspired by classical sources, symmetrical as opposed to the asymmetry of the Rococo style that succeeded it.

Technique
This jewel features a filigree decoration, made of fine twisted gold wires in refined patterns, here as elegant little balls. The use of granulation is also noted. Granulation is a technique where the goldsmith uses tiny metal beads, not welded to the piece, but soldered. Both techniques require exceptional skill and precision from the creator.
Characteristics
On the outside of the ring is a hallmark from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a floral V, used for small foreign and domestic works between 1814 and 1831. Inside, there are older hallmarks that require further research, but one of them resembles a "U," with a vertical diamond between the open arms of the "U," perhaps surrounded by a halo (maybe a date letter?). The distinctive character of these hallmarks suggests that the ring could date from around 1700.
