At the sight of this 18th-century "À la Jeannette" cross pendant, one is captivated by its journey through time. Crafted with the delicate filigree typical of Belgian rococo, its design in red gold and silver, set with diamonds and senailles, evokes its past life at the heart of the opulence of a bygone era. A vestige of a lavish history, once a precious possession of a wealthy family, its intact splendor has survived the centuries to reach us in very good condition.

Style:
Rococo - Rococo (more rarely roccoco), also called "late baroque," is an 18th-century style that developed when baroque artists abandoned symmetry to adopt an increasingly ornamental, flowery, and playful approach. Rococo pieces were designed as total works of art, with elegant and ornate furniture, small sculptures, decorative mirrors, and tapestries complementing the architecture, reliefs, and murals. It was largely supplanted by the neoclassical style. In 1835, the Dictionnaire de l'Académie française specified that the word rococo "generally designates the type of ornament, style, and motif associated with the reign of Louis XV and the beginning of that of Louis XVI." It therefore encompasses all types of art produced around the mid-18th century in France.

Stylistic features:
Rococo is a decorative style that succeeded, around 1730, the baroque style in France (where it was also called rocaille). Its main characteristics are the asymmetry of ornaments and a repertoire composed largely of rockwork, shells, flowers, foliage, and scrolls. It was developed in France under Louis XV (1715-1774) and spread to Italy, Germany, and Austria, and to a lesser extent to England.
