Here is a piece that is both atypical and emblematic of the 1960s. Emblematic for its size, materials, and signature, Christian Dior! We have looked through many issues of Vogue and Elle from the 1960s, but found no similar piece. Their shapes evoke snails: their bodies are made of silver and covered with burgundy suede. On the back, the artist used 18-carat gold for the finish. Also set in yellow gold, the 43 brilliant-cut diamonds, with a total weight of just under 7.00 ct, are distributed on the snails.

Christian Dior - The Maison Dior was founded on December 16, 1946 in a "maison private" at 30, avenue Montaigne, Paris B. In 1950, Christian Dior was the exclusive designer of Marlene Dietrich's dresses for Alfred Hitchcock's film Stage Fright. In 1951, Dior published his first book, Je suis couturier. Despite a strong European audience, more than half of his turnover was then generated in the United States. In 1957, at the death of Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, then aged 21, became the artistic director. Saint Laurent left the maison after creating six Dior collections. (according to Wikipedia)
