Charming pair of antique earrings in the shape of a small basket filled with natural pearls, set in 14-carat gold. An antique, charming, and handcrafted piece of jewelry, symbolizing abundance and prosperity. It was a traditional Sicilian wedding gift: the groom would give it to the bride as a promise of a prosperous family.
The gold is twisted and engraved. Hundreds of tiny pearls are carefully strung.
The small natural pearls were fished by Sicilians on the eastern coasts of the Mediterranean and have also been used in jewelry since the Middle Ages.
