Jewelry of the Grand Era: Victorian ruby bangle bracelet
This magnificent bangle bracelet, from the sumptuous Victorian era around 1880, perfectly illustrates the extravagant style of the time. Made of 14-carat rose gold, it is adorned with twenty-one rubies totaling approximately 2.20 carats and sprinkled with forty-eight delicate seed pearls. Its prestigious origin dates back to an acquisition by Simons Antique Jewellers in the 1980s, a provenance proudly recounted in their catalog. Bearing the Dutch hallmark for 14-carat gold after 1955, this bangle reflects the era's penchant for opulent jewelry, infused with exotic influences from around the world and tinged with the poignant elegance characteristic of mourning pieces. Honoring the birthstones of July and June, this bangle is not just an accessory, but a fragment of rich Victorian history.

Style
Victorian - Victorian decorative arts refer to the style of decorative arts from the Victorian era. This period is known for its eclectic revival and interpretation of historical styles, as well as the introduction of intercultural influences from the Middle East and Asia in furniture, accessories, and interior decoration. Victorian design is widely perceived as having displayed a regrettable excess of ornamentation. The Arts and Crafts movement, the Aesthetic movement, the Anglo-Japanese style, and Art Nouveau all have their origins at the end of the Victorian era.

Style specifics
The Grand Victorian Period - Experts divide the reign of Queen Victoria, also known as the Victorian era (1837 - 1901), into three periods of about twenty years each: the Romantic Victorian Period (1837 - 1860), the Grand Victorian Period (1860 - 1880), and the Late or Aesthetic Victorian Period (1880 - 1901).
We consider this to be the Grand Victorian Period.
This second Victorian period is famous for its sumptuous pieces set with pearls and diamonds (from South Africa). From around 1850, wealthy Englishmen brought back knowledge of jewelry from India and Japan, which greatly inspired jewelers of that era. This period also coincides with the death of King Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, which made mourning jewelry (set with heavy dark stones) the specific type of jewelry of this era.
