Exceptional cameo in agate representing the presumed portrait of Queen Caroline Murat. It is attributed to Nicolas Morelli 1771/1838. The 18 carat gold setting is set with 42 fine pearls and 43 rose-cut diamonds. The cameo mounted as a brooch is remarkable for the thickness of its layers of agate, the extreme finesse of the sculpture and its splendid entourage of diamonds and fine pearls. Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples and sister of Napoleon I, adored cameos, which were very fashionable at the beginning of the 19th century in Florence, Naples and Rome. Nicolas Morelli was an engraver of cameo the most famous of his time. He made for the mother of Napoleon I a necklace of 10 stones representing the portraits of the princes of the imperial family. On the back of the cameo we can distinguish a system allowing mounting on a bracelet or a necklace, this cameo must have been part of a set. Period early 19th century.
