Important antique circular pendant medal in solid 18-carat yellow gold (750 thousandths), stamped with an eagle's head guarantee hallmark. French Art Nouveau work from the early 20th century, branded Becker. It depicts Jesus Christ unveiling his radiant Sacred Heart, very finely engraved with beautiful relief and delicate details. The border is a stained glass window in blue and green plique-à-jour enamel. Christ's halo is in red enamel. No engraving on the reverse.
Edmond Becker, born in Paris (1871-1971), participated from the age of twenty in the Salon des Artistes Français in the sculpture section, but it was the 1900 exhibition that brought him recognition at the Boucheron stand (gold medal). For many years, he devoted himself exclusively to medals, of which he became the great specialist in Paris. His medals are distinguished by their finesse of execution and the rendering of expressions (source: "Médailles Becker").

This rare collector's medal is finely crafted, with a beautiful and delicate design.
Plique-à-jour is an enameling technique similar to cloisonné, but without a metal backing, so that light can filter through the transparent or translucent enamel. The effect produced is that of stained glass. It is hardly used anymore, as it is complex with a significant implementation time (more than four months per object) and a high failure rate. Furthermore, its transmission between generations of goldsmiths has not been ensured.
