Old medal pendant in solid 18-carat (750 thousandths) yellow gold, eagle's head hallmark.
French work dated 1916. Round in shape, it represents the very finely chiseled Reims Cathedral, with a beautiful and fine relief decoration. Surrounded by days and bearing the inscription in French “Reims Cathedral destroyed by the Germans on September 19, 1914”.
Engraved on the back with an “IP” monogram and two dates “August 1914” and 1916. Large bail for passing an important chain or cord.

Reims Cathedral is an emblematic building, recognized as one of the greatest examples of Gothic architecture in France. In 496, the baptism of Clovis, king of the Franks, was a key event in its history.
Then from the 9th century, it was the place of the coronation of thirty-two kings of France. In 1924, the American John-D. Rockefeller, made a donation for the restoration of this monument of French heritage heavily damaged by German bombings during the First World War. The building is rebuilt identically. In 1991, Reims Cathedral was listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
