Pair of old sleeper earrings in solid 18-carat (750 thousandths) pink gold, eagle's head hallmark. French Art Nouveau work from the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century. Each adorned with a round black jet cabochon mounted on a spangle. Bezel-set with a finely openwork and beaded frieze. Split attachment system, which slips on from the back.

For the record, jewelry made of jet (very hard form of anthracite coal) or onyx is not necessarily mourning jewelry. There were periods in France, in the 19th century, when the fashion was for black clothing and jewelry. So at that time, almost all women married in black. The fashion for white dresses is much more recent.
