Magnificent antique pendant medal in solid 18-carat yellow gold (750 thousandths) bearing an eagle's head guarantee hallmark and a diamond-shaped master goldsmith's mark. French work Art Deco, branded GRUN. Octagonal in shape, the obverse features the profile of Virgin Mary Mary with a halo, very finely and richly engraved with beautiful relief. The reverse is in natural white mother-of-pearl with beautiful iridescent reflections, without engraving.
For reference, Samuel Grün, born in 1869 in Tallinn, was a French painter and medallist of Estonian origin. He exhibited at the Société des artistes français in Paris as well as at the Royal Academy Salon in London.
