Vintage 18-carat Gold Necklace set with Perpignan Garnets, in paillon. A rare treasure!
The Perpignan Garnets have a different cut and color from other Garnets. Highly prized and collected due to their rarity, these Garnets come from Roussillon in France. The mines have since closed. "The Perpignan Garnets and their cut are protected, thus making them part of the exceptional heritage of Roussillon."
Since the 18th century, Garnets have been cut in this way, in a Rose shape, like Diamonds. "In paillon" means the stone is covered with a layer to enhance its color, then decorated with gold.
Although it does not bear any hallmark, it has been tested and its authenticity in 18-carat Gold is guaranteed.
