A 1200 year old pre-Columbian gold pendant with a carnelian necklace
Description: Finely hammered gold leaf in the shape of a bird with outstretched wings and tail forms the eye-catching pendant of this pearl necklace.
The necklace itself consists of large orange-red beads with white veins of different shapes - most likely carnelian -, small grayish-black beads of the same shape and gold plates wound into scroll beads, with at The end has a hook and eye closure.
Period: 400 CE
Condition: very good condition
Country of origin: South America
Style: Pre-Columbian
Material: not tested, but a high gold alloy (18K+).
Precious stones: 14 -most likely- cylindrical carnelian beads with a height varying between 13.09mm (0.515 inch) and 22.37mm (0.881 inch), and a diameter between 5.18mm (0.204 inch) and 8 .98mm (0.354 inch).
