Circa the Edwardian era, this large and impressive rhinoceros scarab brooch is encrusted with rose cut diamonds on an 18k gold body and silver sterling. The insect's head and antenna are accented with diamond designs in stylized floral shapes. At the center of the head is a stunning rose cut diamond, surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds, with two ruby cabochons for eyes. The insect's abdomen is a stunning moon-shaped carved onyx that fits perfectly into the body of the piece. The black of the onyx is offset by a patina silverdark color; the diamonds sparkle and burst against him. Six insect legs are made of 18-karat gold and its feet transform into stylized curls, a pattern that repeats throughout the piece.
