Between Edwardian and Art Deco - The Edwardian era, or Edwardian period in the United Kingdom, covers the reign of King Edward VII, from 1901 to 1910. The death of Queen Victoria in January 1901 and the accession to the throne of her son, Edward, marked the start of a new century and the end of the Victorian era. While Victoria had withdrawn from society, Edward was the leader of a fashionable elite who set a style influenced by art and continental European trends, perhaps due to the king's taste for travel. This era was marked by significant political changes, with some social groups, once largely excluded from power, such as workers and women, becoming increasingly politicized. The Art Deco is an eclectic artistic and design style that originated in Paris in the early decades of the 20th century. Emerging in the 1920s, this style lasted until after the Second World War. The term "Art Deco" was widely used for the first time after an exhibition in 1966, referring to the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, which marked the height of high-end modern style in Paris. Championed by the best designers in the decorative arts, such as fashion and interior decoration, Art Deco influenced all areas of design during the 1920s and 1930s, notably architecture and industrial design, as well as visual arts like painting, graphic arts, and cinema. At the time, this style was perceived as elegant, glamorous, functional, and modern.

Stylistic characteristics:
In terms of its elegant design, this jewel has the finesse of an Edwardian piece, gracefully contrasting with the geometric forms of the Art Deco, heavily influenced by Cubism. However, since the Edwardian and Art Deco styles were contemporary, one sometimes finds pieces, like this one, that bear both influences.
