Rare regional pink gold enamel clasp from the 19th century
Important antique ratchet clasp in solid 18 carat (750 thousandths) pink gold, horse head guarantee hallmark in use between 1838 and 1919 and diamond hallmark of master goldsmith. 19th century French regional work, typical of Auvergne.
The clasp has a remarkable relief. It is centered with a domed oval cartouche and finely chiseled with flowers and scrolls highlighted by enamel. Around it, a beautiful pearl border in volume.
This type of 'sentiment' clasp was commonly given at weddings and was used to create 'slave collars'.
Total length of clasp: 2.04 cm - Width: 2.2 cm - Weight: 2.23 g
Very good condition of the clasp body, with very light micro scratches. The enamel is in very good condition, without any loss. The clasp clips very well and remains securely in place without any play. The side parts are intended for a necklace or bracelet of up to five rows. The three attachment holes in the center are in good condition. The top and bottom have tears with some gold loss. The clasp is sold as seen in the photos, with its imperfections. This is a beautiful, rare and authentic, functional sentiment clasp, which has been worn, and may still be worn.
