Omega : L'horlogerie Suisse à son apogée

Omega: Swiss watchmaking at its peak

Since its creation in 1848, Omega is a leading Swiss watchmaker, best known for its iconic watches like the Speedmaster and Seamaster. A hallmark of precision and innovation, Omega has been part of historic moments, from the Apollo 11 moon landing to the Olympic Games. Discover Omega’s legacy and lasting impact on the world of luxury watches.

The History of Omega

Omega's story began in 1848, when the young Swiss watchmaker Louis Brandt opened a "comptoir d'tablissement" in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Louis made clocks from parts supplied by local craftsmen and sold his works in Europe, particularly in Italy and England.

After his death, his two sons took over the management of the company. They moved the company to Biel, where they built a modern factory. Their aim was to manufacture complete watches, from the movement to the final assembly, in order to guarantee optimum quality and precision. In 1894, they launched the Omega caliber, which quickly established itself thanks to its innovative design and ease of maintenance. It was so successful that the company took the name Omega Watch Co. in 1903.

The brand established itself even more in 1917 as the official supplier to the Royal Air Force. Omega watches stood out thanks to their solidity and reliability. They also timed the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games and those that followed.

They quickly became a symbol of surpassing and success. They accompanied the most significant moments in history: 1934 with the first female pilot who crossed the Atlantic Ocean solo, 1968 with Ralph S. Plaisted's polar expedition, 1969 with the discovery of the moon by Apollo 11 or the record for diving without respiratory assistance by Jacques Mayol in 1981.
