Ruby, a rare stone

The ruby belongs to the corundum family. Ruby owes its name to the Latin “ruber” which means red. Birthstone of the month of July, it is recognizable by its bright red color.

A powerful color

THE ruby is a stone containing several color variations ranging from bright red to purplish red. Thanks to the minute variations in their chemical composition, it is also possible to see very varied shades of pink, from very light to very dark on the stone. Many stones come in several color variations making them even more precious, the ruby is the perfect example! Ruby is therefore one of the most important gems on the colored stone market.

Symbol of happiness, divine love or even royalty, the ruby is a stone of strength and courage. Concerning its virtues, they are relatively concentrated on the blood network, it also helps with healing as well as everyone's energy and tone.

The queen of precious stones

Concerning its history, the ruby appears in the first millennium, but it remained very rare during Antiquity. In the Middle Ages, the ruby symbolized the blood of Christ and kings wore it on their crowns as a sign of faith. Additionally, the ruby was an important gem in the Hindu religion, it was one of the nine stones representing the planets that influence the world. Then in the 19th century, its supply increased thanks to importation into France with Burma and Thailand. The deposits are therefore found in these countries, but also in Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique and finally in Afghanistan.
