Jaeger-LeCoultre pays tribute to Hokusai's paintings at Watches & Wonders 2026

At Watches & Wonders 2026, Jaeger-LeCoultre concludes eight years of tribute to Hokusai with four new Reverso Tribute Enamel Cascades recreating the revolutionary Prussian Blue via a graduated high-fire enamel.

With this final step, Jaeger-LeCoultre completes its series dedicated to Hokusai's Waterfalls by offering four new Reverso Tribute Enamel watches, conceived as a conclusion to a creative cycle that began in 2018. Maison chooses a particularly demanding path: reproducing iconic works by the Japanese master on a miniature scale on the case back, with a precision that is as much a matter of watchmaking as of decorative arts. 

The idea of closure here has real narrative significance, as it gives the Reverso the role of a complete artistic expression. Since its creation, the reversible-case watch has been conceived as an ideal setting for personalization, and Jaeger-LeCoultre is now exploiting all its possibilities with engraving, guilloché work and enameling. 

Prussian Blue Hokusai's revolutionary pigment

The common thread running through this series is the Prussian Blue, the blue of Prussia, a revolutionary pigment that profoundly influenced Hokusai's work. Introduced to Japan in the 19th century, it made it possible to intensify the palette of prints, gain in chromatic stability and open up new possibilities for gradations, particularly to render the movement of water. 

At Jaeger-LeCoultre, this chromatic reference is not merely a visual homage: it becomes a technical challenge. The Manufacture seeks to recreate the depth and transitions of Japanese prints through successive layers of grand feu enamel, in order to recapture the nuanced effect that Hokusai exploited in his woodblock prints. 

8 Years of Artistic Dialogue (2018-2026)

Between 2018 and 2026, Jaeger-LeCoultre cultivated a genuine artistic dialogue with Hokusai, creating numerous horological interpretations of his most celebrated works. This continuity lends meaning to the announcement of Watches & Wonders 2026, which not only unveils an exceptional timepiece but also concludes a series conceived as a long-term narrative. 

The strength of this project lies in its coherence: each edition has extended the exploration of the same imaginary world, that of waterfalls, moving water and the power of nature. By choosing Hokusai, Jaeger-LeCoultre found a field of expression perfectly compatible with its own culture of precision, detail and composition. 

Jaeger-LeCoultre and its Rare Crafts

The signature of this collection lies in rare professions Maison, and more specifically in the mastery of miniature grand feu enamel. Jaeger-LeCoultre artisans must work on a surface of approximately 3 cm², with a process that combines extreme miniaturization, layering of colors and numerous high-temperature firings. 

According to the official version put forward by the Maison, This work requires several dozen hours and a large number of successive firings, up to 12 to 15 passes at 800 °C to achieve the desired depth. The Reverso Tribute Enamel Hokusai thus illustrates Jaeger-LeCoultre's identity as a manufacture of integrated know-how, capable of bringing together more than 180 skills in one place. 

The dial itself extends this artistic requirement. Hand-engraved and then covered with a translucent high-fire enamel, It engages in a dialogue with the painting on the reverse side and reinforces the impression of a piece conceived as a complete work, where watchmaking becomes a medium of aesthetic expression in its own right. 

Other remarkable Jaeger creations at Watches & Wonders 2026

Watches & Wonders 2026 is not limited to the tribute to Hokusai, even though his work naturally captures attention with its refinement. Jaeger-LeCoultre also presents other creations in a scenographic setting dedicated to its heritage, its master watchmakers, and its demonstrations of expertise, confirming its desire to make the show an experience as much as a showcase. 

There Maison structured this edition around the theme “The Valley of Inventions”, a direct nod to the Vallée de Joux, the historic birthplace of the manufacture and a symbol of its culture of precision.

The most spectacular piece is undoubtedly the Master Hybris Inventiva Stratosphere Gyrotourbillon, Presented as the first creation in this new Hybris Inventiva line, it is distinguished by a patented triple-axis tourbillon, designed to cover 98% of possible positions, with an almost extreme approach to chronometric regulation. Jaeger-LeCoultre showcases its high mechanical virtuosity by pairing it with a case made of platinum, to a white gold movement and a particularly elaborate finishing work, combining guilloché, lacquer, hand-beveled edges and a translucent blue enamel ring.

In a more contemporary vein, the Manufacture also presented the new collection Master Control Stopwatch, composed of three inaugural models: Date, Date Power Reserve and Perpetual CalendarThis line marks a significant evolution, as it introduces an integrated metal bracelet developed specifically for the collection, while also affirming a new internal requirement for precision called HPG, For High Precision Guarantee, in addition to the COSC chronometer certification.

This new Master Control Chronometer illustrates a very clear objective: to make precision visible and legible in the design itself. The watches retain the understated and technical spirit characteristic of the Master collection, but embrace a more contemporary aesthetic, with restrained proportions and a stronger presence on the wrist.

In parallel with these major launches, the Maison presented other creations that reinforce the idea of a very comprehensive edition, where innovation is not limited to a single collection.
