Superb “archaeological” style gold brooch, adorned with a magnificent cameo in onyx agate representing the profile of the famous “Apollo of Belvedere”. The frame is decorated with fine pearls.

The neo-antique style, also called "Etruscan style" and "archaeological style" in the second half of the 19th century, was born in Italy at the end of the 18th century following the discoveries of Pompeii and Herculaneum. It spread in France under Napoleon III, notably thanks to the latter's acquisition of the famous Campana collection, and inspired jewelers as famous as Fontenay, Falize and Vever.
