Une montre iconique : La Tank de chez Cartier

An iconic watch: The Tank from home Cartier

The House Cartier has always been able to establish itself in watchmaking with very recognizable and atypical shapes. There Tank is one of those that breaks the codes of basic watch designs with its rectangular case, inspired by military tanks of the First World War. All of this has propelled this watch to the status of an iconic watch.

It was marketed in 1919 and has since featured various materials, colors and settings, managing to remain faithful to its original elegance.

The history of the Tank Cartier

Louis Cartier was fascinated by the assault tanks produced in Renault factories, so he set out, with this idea in mind, to design a watch model inspired by the shape of the assault tank. The idea of the Tank was born. The creation of this watch pays homage to the steel monsters, Cartier is therefore inspired for its case by a tank seen from above, by its square shape, surrounded by two side stretchers (imitation of tank tracks), with railway timer and Roman numerals. It is not just a watch model like any other that is seeing the light of day, but a timeless object that defies the years and enjoys immediate success.

In the detail of the Tank

Recognizable everywhere by its unique design, the Tank is defined by its leather strap, its square case caught between two stretchers which stretch it to the rectangle, its mineral crystal, its sword-shaped hands made of blued steel, its Roman numerals, its railway timer , its mechanical manual winding movement with a power reserve of approximately 40 hours (a first mechanism branded Jaeger Le Coultre)… And of course, the sapphire cabochon as a winder, the distinctive sign of all watches Tank of Cartier. This watch, in addition to all its characteristics, is waterproof up to 30 meters from its first model, this makes it Tank an armored watch, designed to withstand everything, from sporting activities to combat, in fact, it lives up to its name.

Cartier integrated the strap attachments into the case, as if to make them merge into one another, to make the timepiece a unique object encompassing the wrist. Cartier therefore offers a watch which is also a jewel and which is worn as a beautiful accessory despite its slightly less glamorous meaning.
