Everything you need to know about yellow gold

What is yellow gold?

Like rose gold, white gold, and black gold, 18kt or 18kt yellow gold is a mixture of pure yellow gold (called "24k gold") that is too soft to be worked precisely, to which comes add other metals (such assilver and copper) in order to harden the alloy.

750 thousandths (18 carat) gold is composed of 75% 24 carat gold (one thousandth) and 25%silver and copper. Its color is close to pure gold: a deep and shiny yellow, but the presence of other metals in the alloy makes it harder, so it is better suited to making jewelry set with precious stones. Indeed, pure 24 carat gold is a very malleable metal.

Why choose yellow gold?

Yellow gold does not lack qualities:

It adapts to all skin types. It particularly highlights tanned to dark skin and illuminates with its wonderful sun tone.

Yellow gold is more durable than platinum or thesilver. Like other types of gold, it is very durable and scratches relatively little.

Therefore, it is very suitable for clumsy people and is also suitable for everyday jewelry such as engagement rings And the Rings.

Finally, yellow gold will never lose its color because it does not oxidize

So if you don't want to worry about caring for your jewelry: yellow gold is made for you!

What is fair trade yellow gold?

The alternative to fair trade gold is represented by two main labels, namely “Fair Mining” (supported by the Colombian Association of Responsible Mining Associations) and “Fair Trade” (by one of the main participants of fair trade, Max Havelar).

It is about working on a fairer value chain, better remuneration for miners, and more generally responsible mining activities: better working conditions, greater stability, and the guarantee of the absence of child labor. .

What is recycled yellow gold?

The gold recovered in France comes from the recycling of jewelry and other gold objects (old coins, amalgams, electronic recycling, etc.) as well as manufacturing waste from jewelry workshops.

To a lesser extent (around 10% of the total), it is extracted from e-waste. Indeed, there is a small amount of gold in the phone or computer that allows you to read these lines.

After recovery, the gold will be analyzed to determine whether it is pure gold, alloy, etc. Then it will be refined, to extract and separate the precious metals, in particular gold, from the other materials present.

Finally, a new alloy is made. This is what will be used to make new jewelry.
