Filigree, a tradition of old and vintage jewelry
Discovered in Egypt and old for more than 7,000 years, filigree is one of the most attractive and precious goldsmithing techniques. This technique, which requires a delicate process, is only mastered by very few artisans in the world, located mainly in Portugal, India and Russia.

Filigree is a technique which consists of intertwining and welding very fine and precious metals to obtain pieces of goldwork similar to lace giving this embroidery effect. These metals used are gold andsilver, they therefore allow this finesse thanks to their elasticity when heated. So, with one gram of gold we can have several meters of wire. But there are more precisely two types of watermark. The first, the application filigree, consists of putting very fine threads on the piece of goldwork in order to obtain embroidery effects added to this same piece. The second is the integration watermark, which consists of creating the jewel entirely made of watermark. A technique which then requires greater mastery, skills and very in-depth experience. As we can see with this lace ring white gold diamond or even this filigree bracelet in yellow gold.Thanks to this totally marvelous technique, many filigree jewelry pieces have emerged, unleashing all the creativity of artisans drawing inspiration from various backgrounds.
