Antique 18-carat (750 thousandths) yellow gold ratchet clasp with eagle's head hallmark and diamond-shaped master goldsmith hallmark. French regional work from the 19th century. Clasp with eight straight sides framed at each end by a beautiful chiseled frieze of flowers in relief.
This type of 'sentiment' clasp was commonly given at weddings and was used to create 'slave collars'.

Good condition. Light micro scratches. Note small traces of impacts on the straight parts of the body of the clasp, more or less visible and numerous depending on the faces. It closes well and remains firmly in place despite significant play of the ratchet. Sold at as in the photos, with its imperfections, which also make the charm of the antique jewelry. This is a rare sentiment clasp, which has been worn, and may still be.
