19th century Memento Mori coral skull pendant
Pendant depicting a skull carved in natural Mediterranean coral of blood red color. Mounted in solid 18 carat yellow gold (750 thousandths). French work from the 19th century for the coral, new gold parts. It is a unique, unisex jewel.
Skulls are symbols of mortality, illustrating the Memento Mori which can be translated as "Remember that you will die". They are a symbol of vanity, an allegorical representation of the fragility of human life and the fatuity of what human beings attach themselves to during it.
