How to reduce the size of a ring

Ring size reduction by a professional jeweler

Shrinking a gold ring at a jeweler is called “sizing”. This is a common intervention in our workshops and different methods can be used: the simplest is to cut the ring (generally at the bottom of the body of the ring) then re-solder it. However, this is not always possible. We can therefore also offer you the installation of a ring “spring”, the addition of two adjustment balls inside the ring… The method used depends on the importance of the necessary reduction, but sometimes also the type of ring and its weight.

Difficulties that may be encountered in reducing the size of a ring 

Please note: some rings require a lot more work and know-how: for example, a ring encrusted with diamonds like some solitaire engagement rings, a ring Tank whose ring body is very large and the stone integrated into this ring body, will make the operation much more delicate. 

If in the majority of cases you will be informed of the possibility of reducing your ring size by 2 to 3 “numbers”, beyond that, the opinion of our workshops will often be a prerequisite before confirming that this can actually be achieved. .

Finally, an engraved wedding ring or a piece of jewelry with triple intertwined rings like some rings from the collection Cartier or an engagement ring in which the entire circumference of the ring is paved with diamonds, like some of the Tiffany & Co collection cannot be resized. It is therefore sometimes necessary to completely reshape the body of the ring, which can make the operation as expensive as a new creation.

If it is a size adjustment during your order, please note that the right of withdrawal period is no longer valid because the ring will have been transformed. However, we can carry out this resizing in a second step.
