Nos coups de coeur de bijoux en Filigrane

Our favorite Filigree jewelry

The history of filigree jewelry is over 7,000 years old and was discovered in Egypt. Today, there are only a handful of goldsmiths left capable of making filigree jewelry, hence the interest in taking advantage of this wonderful technique when it is offered on a vintage piece of jewelry. We fell for several of these very fine jewels…

A great technique and a goldsmith tradition

The filigree technique is one of the oldest and one of the most beautiful used in jewelry. It consists of intertwining and welding very fine threads of precious metals (up to 0.2mm in diameter) to obtain pieces resembling lace. Gold andsilver are best suited to this.
You will find all the details of this technique in our article: Filigree, a tradition of old and vintage jewelry.

Filigree jewelry of the 19th century

In the 19th century, filigree jewelry became very popular due to the rise of the Romantic movement and renewed interest in jewelry from earlier eras, such as the Renaissance and Baroque. Filigree techniques were used to create very intricate and ornate designs, often incorporating precious stones and pearls.
At this era, filigree jewelry was often made using a technique called "pierced work", in which metal was carefully cut and pierced to create intricate patterns and designs. This technique allowed jewelers to create highly detailed and delicate pieces that were both beautiful and complex.
Filigree jewelry was also popular because it could be made from a variety of metals, including gold, silver and the platinum. Additionally, they could be made in different styles, from Victorian era designs to Art Nouveau inspired pieces. A famous example of filigree jewelry from this era is the "tiara" style necklace, which was a popular accessory for women of high society. These necklaces were made using delicate filigree techniques and featured a central section that resembled a tiara, from which strands of pearls or precious stones branched out.
