Peridot, a stone that has its effect

Peridot is a stone composed essentially of magnesium, iron and silica. It gets its green color thanks to the more or less significant presence of Nickel or Chrome. This stone has often been confused with emerald due to its similar color even though peridot has a softer color. Peridot is a symbol of wisdom, it protects against demons as well as madness. It is known to protect from external influences, to promote mental health as well as to restore balance to the heart and good arterial circulation. It is considered the stone of well-being.

Concerning its history, peridot became popular in the first millennium BC on Zabargad, an island on the Egyptian coast. The stone was considered a symbol of the sun. The mineral arrived in Europe thanks to the Crusaders. Peridot was therefore used to adorn beautiful sacred objects such as those from the treasure of the Three Kings which is located at Cologne Cathedral. It then became very popular in Europe during the Baroque period (16th century) and continued to be used in jewelry during the Victorian era, then later in Art Nouveau jewelry. Today, the main producer of natural peridot is in San Carlos in the United States. It manufactures 90% of world production there. However, the brightest and clearest peridots originate from the Kashmir region. Deposits can also be found in many countries such as Myanmar, Vietnam and Pakistan. Finally, it is also said that the peridot has extraterrestrial origins, in fact the stone is present in the form of meteorites in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
