How to clean your earrings in 5 steps?

Whether you have earrings second-hand in gold or silver, they lose their shine over time. There are a few little tips to help your earring quickly regain its shine. Without damaging the metal of your jewelry or the stones that adorn the earring, you can restore splendor to the precious item. A little water, neutral soap, a soft toothbrush, a lint-free cloth and a few minutes of patience are the essential elements to restore the sumptuousness of your favorite pair of earrings.

First step: soak your earring in a little water

Get a bowl large enough to place a bottom of water in which your jewelry will soak. It's not about drowning your earrings, but rather bathing them while keeping them in view. You can use water mixed with a neutral PH soap. Some people use liquid dish soap. These products can be corrosive, so choose a neutral liquid soap to respect the metal and stones of your jewelry. Find out about the precious gems that adorn your earring. Some, like amber, don't like soap, or the pearl does not tolerate cosmetics and the opal can lose its light in water. A bath in clear water will be enough to restore its beauty.

Step Two: Gently Brush Your Earring

During soaking in soapy water, the dirt residue inserted into your earring softened or dissolved. However, there are always some places where bacteria like to lodge and which must be helped to eliminate. To clean your earring more effectively, use a soft toothbrush. Rub the jewelry vigorously. Thanks to the soft bristles of the toothbrush, you will reach complicated and delicate places.

Third step: rinse your earring thoroughly

After brushing the jewelry with the toothbrush, it is important to rinse well. To remove all the residue loosened by the toothbrush, running under clean water is essential. To avoid losing your earring in the twists and turns of the pipes, equip yourself with a strainer. This way you can rinse your earring without risking losing it. To rinse your earring as for the soaking step, you can use lukewarm water. Warm water removes impurities better than cold water.

Step Four: Clean Your Earring with Alcohol

To find your earrings very clean and completely free of dirt and bacteria, this last step is perfect. By using a cotton swab soaked in alcohol, you will be able to disinfect the entire earring and thus ensure that no bacteria can survive this process. Use rubbing alcohol to clean your earring. However, also pay attention to the precious stones set on your jewelry. Some stones react poorly to alcohol and can be damaged. It is therefore important, as with soapy water, to know the precious stones before using any product at the risk of losing the splendor of your jewelry.

Step Five: Dry Your Earring

Before putting your earrings back in your ears, remember to dry them well. To prevent the earring from remaining wet and being at the mercy of bacteria again, it is important to dry them well. You can either let your jewelry air dry or use a cloth. If you prefer this second solution, a lint-free cotton cloth is ideal. By drying your earring with the cloth, you also allow your jewelry to regain its shine. It's a bit like polishing.
